You Don’t Have To Face Depression Alone

Having some type of depression is the loneliest way of living. No one can take the pain, despair away. They can’t make you be happy. There is a feeling that nothing will ever be right again and you JUST DON’T CARE!

It was a very sad day for many. The death of comic Robin Williams took many of us by surprise. I for one was shocked.

Many believe he had it all. Fame. Family. Fortune. Humor.  He brought laughter to so many lives even as he was dealing with his own personal problems. He was also human. One of those was severe depression.  Even though he openly talked about his depression and addictions, living with it can be difficult.

There are many reasons you can be depressed. And there are many levels of depression. The day your kids all move out can be a trigger for depression. The sudden emptiness of the house. The vast amount of time you gain with no appointments for kids. Even the empty spot at the dinner table can make you feel depressed.

I have lived through mild depression and stress anxiety for about 10 years. It wasn’t easy. Some days it was all I could do to put a brave smile on and face my day. Other times, I’d think, hey I’m going to be okay today. Things are looking up.

Throughout all my depression, I’ve had a good support system to help me, though. Many days I’ve leaned on my spouse or a friend for help. On my darkest days, I consulted professional help.

I thank GOD every day that I did.

With the support of family, friends and professionals I am able to  laugh easily, play with my adorable grandkids and move myself forward in my life and business.

Reading books about happiness, depression and loneliness can help as well.

Many of us have been taught that as marketers and entrepreneurs, we’re not supposed to talk about personal problems even though everyone has them.

I’m here to ask why not?

Why shouldn’t we care about each other as individuals instead of as just someone who owns this business or is behind that brand or is a superstar or an athlete or just mom next door?

If you are dealing with depression, please, please get help. And if you know someone who is battling depression, please be a friend and find a way to help them.

Connect with others online who can help you understand your feelings and guide you to the help you need.
